Paint me a Picture of First Grade

This was our door decoration for Catholic Schools Week
Faith, Academics and Service

The kids helped me think of a way to decorate the door. We had just finished a chapter on disciples. I had these cute pictures I wanted to reuse so we thought of lining them up to the song "One Little, Two Little, Three Little Indians". So we have to sing it faster, add a 4th little and changed it to disciples. They came up with... "For Our Lord". Loved it!

Their reflections that I spoke about in a previous blog.

During Catholic School's Week, we celebrated a day of Vocations. Sister Joanie from Xavier came to talk with the children about being a nun. The neatest thing about her visit is that Sr. Joanie was my Assistant Principal and teacher when I was a student at Xavier. It was so nice to have her in my classroom after so many years. Not to worry: She did not have any embarrassing stories about me. I was a pretty good girl!

A cute glance at them while they are listening to Sr. Joanie!

Charlie is searching for word families in his Reading book and recording those words on his white board.

Annie is on the search.

Look at Anjalyna go!

This was an image they children created to remind them of the Holy Trinity. (You may have to turn your head to the left).

Katie sorts Valentine candy as the start of our Valentine graphing activity!

We count the total- even the birthday boy Connor has to count on his birthday!

Now we graph each color of candy that we sorted.

Then we turn our picture graph into a bar graph by coloring each square.

Compound word center

star + fish = starfish

Nicholas and Veanna work together in centers to build sentences that use adjectives that compare.

Nicholas shows me the final product!

Connor searches in his magazine for words that have digraph /ea/

Student council pops in for a review of what is recyclable and what is not!

Hannah holds Annie so she doesn't fall while trying to squish down the recycle can! We usually fill our recycle can before we fill our trash can!

Vincent helps me teach a lesson. He models it on the board...

We work through the textbook together.

Love notes from my sweet children...

A sweet reflection!

We work with clay in art class.

God is even on our minds during art class.

clay + art time = smiles

Beautiful creations from beautiful children

We have some really fun days in first grade. We are learning a mile a minute, ending the 3rd quarter and spending some extra time in prayer. Spending my day with these children is just as fun to as I hope they are having in all that I plan for them.
Thank you for sending your child to school everyday so that I can learn alongside of them.

Blessings for a peaceful Lent,
Miss Church
