Ra Ra for a little Pom Pom Pomegranate

We smile with a Flat Stanley sent to us from a 1st grade in Boston, MA!

Katie brings in a pomegranate and asks me if I can open and share with the kids... so I do. Look below and you will see how they feel about the taste from their faces. What a fun learning moment. Thank you Katie!

A pomegranate opened and the fruit floats away when we set it in water.

The kids come to the sink to grab a handful. for many, this was their first pomegranate experience.

Ryan likes... but then again, she is always smiling!

Garritt is not so sure!

Colin is cautious and mildly impressed!

Anjalyna's face says BITTER!

Mary is open to the idea but unsure.

Austin is deciding what he thinks!

Vincent is in a deep and calculated thought.

Hannah is happy and hopeful!

Connor was excited to give it a try!

Karina uses her number line to subtract numbers.

Great strategy Abby!

Have a wonderful week!
Love,
Miss Church

We fall in love with Fall

Bringing Fall to First Grade- We planned a fun day for all the first graders. We wanted to bring some traditional fall things to the children, because living in the desert, we don't always get to do these things. The children rotated to 6 different fall themed centers. We had wonderful parents from all 3 classes that guided the centers, rotated the groups and lent a helping hand. As you can see from the smiles on their faces, it was a wonderful day!

Mr. Lehan reads stories to the children as they sip cider.

We sip and lick...

Mrs. Kujawa guides the children to estimate the circumference of an apple.

They children needed to find their pumpkin in the patch.

Boxes of leaves were shipped in from Pennsylvania just for this special occasion!

Anjalyna practices her raking skills.

Gabrielle scratches fall leaves.

Austin and Colin are designing their spider pumpkins.

Gabrielle rakes too!

Charlie is jumping in line to complete the obstacle course.

First, Annie and Veanna have to toss the ball into the funnel.

The end of the obstacle course, then they had to add an article of clothing.

Another wonderful parent reader.

Veanna and Annie sip their cider.

Juan watches as we weigh apples.

My mom, Mrs. Church's famous cider... wow, the classroom spelled so yummy!

We weighed the apples

Ryan colors the different seasons of an apple tree.

Katie shows me her leaf scratch.

They raked, they jumped and they threw piles of leaves up into the air!

Vincent holds up his scratch of a fall leaf, wearing this apple tree hat!

This was the final product of the obstacle course... they needed to create a fall dressed friend!

Mrs. Carlson demonstrated how the kids needed to travel through the obstacle course.

She even went down the slide.

Austin throws the ball up to start the race.

Hannah taste tests different types of apples.

Karina tries them too!

Connor says this reminded him of Michigan!

Alex, Anjalyna and Gabrielle

Hannah and the leaves

Love this... Juan full of leaves.

Austin predicts the weight, size and taste of apples.

The apple evaluation center. Thank you Mrs. Kujawa.. you did such a wonderful job with the kiddos!
